The General Tire Mint 400 is the roughest, most spectacular off-road race in North America! Started in 1976, The Mint is steeped in American lore as thousands of racers as well as celebrities from around the world have attempted to tame the brutal Nevada desert. The 2011 Mint 400 was an epic battle between some of the top off road racers in the world in twenty-five different classes of vehicles. Shot entirely in HD by the largest, most experienced film production crew in off-road, The Mint features stunning cinematography captured in some of the most remote spots on the racecourse. Witness the bumper-to-bumper battling from helicopter, feel the power of these incredible vehicles from the passenger seat, watch as racers fall away embroiled in the agony of defeat, and share in the glory of victory! …This is The 2011 General Tire Mint 400.

The Gymkhana series has become the most successful automotive viral film series in history.

Mad Media recently completed production of the newest video in the masivly successful Gymkhana franchise: Gymkhana THREE, Part 2; Ultimate Playground; l’Autodrome, France. The new video is part three of the Gymkhana series, which began with Gymkhana Practice and was followed up last year with Gymkhana TWO The Infomercial. DC Co-Founder/Chief Brand Officer and World Rally Championship driver, Ken Block discovered the “Ultimate Playground,” in France after an exhaustive search, and executed a host of new groundbreaking Gymkhana stunts for the new film that have once again redefined the sport.

Gymkhana Three was directed by The Martelli Brothers and produced by Mad Media. Co-director Joshua Martelli edited the project at the Mad Media headquarters in Oceanside, California. “This was by far the wildest ride we’ve ever taken with Ken so far! At times he seemed to defy the laws of physics. Our challenge was to make sure that we accurately captured just how intense and truly groundbreaking his driving was – so we pushed ourselves on the technology side, and I’m happy to say the results are stunning,” said Martelli.

The eighty-six year old track, which features fifty-one degree banking, was hand picked by Ken as the new playground for his Gymkhana THREE 2011 Ford Fiesta, and the video clip is nearly eight minutes worth of next level precision driving maneuvers that will leave viewers in awe. “When we scouted the location initially I couldn’t believe how steep and tall the banks were. You could barely walk up them. That combined with some of the open natural terrain and skid pads, as well as a lack of typical signage and track branding made the location unique,” said Matt Martelli, the films co-director.

The Gymkhana video franchise includes ten videos that have netted over 70 million views online and earned Mad Media several prestigious awards. Most recently the Gymkhana TWO video was named one of Ad Age’s “Top 10 Viral Ads of All Time”, for Mad Media. Gymkhana TWO also won a 2010 People’s Telly Silver Award, presented by YouTube; earned a Bronze Pencil at the One Show Entertainment Awards in the “Online Branded Entertainment” category, and was #4 on Ad Age’s list of top viral videos of 2009.

The original Gymkhana project, dubbed “GK1″, has now become a cultural phenomenon. It has clocked in at well over 20 MILLION VIEWS, in over twenty different countries, making it one of the most successful automotive films in history. It has received accolades from media, fans and world-class drivers alike, and was picked as a 2008 Webby Awards Honoree. In the spring of 2009 Ken Block approached us about a follow-up film, to be titled “GK2″. His master plan was to launch the new DC Shoes Teamworks clothing line virally by creating “the worlds greatest infomercial”. We dedicated eight months to pre-production, location scouting, script and story boards, and finally settled on the Los Angeles Harbor for our location. Principal photography began in early May and lasted five solid (fourteen-hour) days. We assembled a fantastic crew of professional, seasoned cinematographers and alongside our in-house Mad Media crew, captured some truly magical and fantastic moments. Mad Media Director of TV/Film Production, Joshua Martelli, directed the mammoth undertaking, which included the oversight of both a principal ten-man (two-camera) RED crew, as well as a fourteen-man Phantom HD crew. In addition to producing the main GK2 film, we produced several key media pieces to promote it’s launch, including the initial GK2 “Teaser”, the GK2 “Build”, and the GK2 “Premiere Party”. Special thanks to Ken Block, DC Shoes, Subaru of America, Monster Energy and Crawford Performance.

The final Gymkhana Two viral film was launched June 1st on DC Shoes new Gymkhana Two website, as well as YouTube, where it garnered 400,000 views in less than twenty-four hours.

Mad Media is proud to present, the “Ken Block 2011 Ford Fiesta RS WRC Reveal” clip! This viral film was shot on location in Torsby, Sweden at their Ski Tunnel facility in a mere eight hours, and edited, mastered, and uploaded to YouTube twelve hours later. The spot features the directorial work of “Martelli Brothers” Joshua Martelli, editing by Mad Media Senior Producer Ryan Holdridge, cinematography by DP Mike McEntire and 1st AC Sherri Miranda, lighting by gaffer Jeff Ferrero, and 110% hustle by Mad Media PA Eddie Barreto. The spot is one of three custom viral films produced for Ken Block and the Monster World Rally Team, created to launch Ken’s 2011 season, which includes WRC racing, various Gymkhana projects, X Games, as well as some secret projects still in the works. Critical to the project was the showcase of the “livery” or car graphics on Ken’s new car – that are being carried over into a line of shirts, sweatshirts, and hats to be sold by partner and sponsor DC Shoes.
