La Paz Racing Wins The Henderson 250 On Their Way To Back To Back BITD Class 8100 Championships

In an environment notorious for destroying equipment and drivers’ will, La Paz Racing has found the secret to success in the desert. “Drive the vehicle you have, not the vehicle you wish you had,” La Paz driver Tim Casey shares. This philosophy has provided Casey with not just a rock solid finish rate, but an unprecedented nine class victories in the last two years, including SCORE International’s 2010 Baja 500. Most recently La Paz Racing won Best In The Desert’s (BITD) Henderson 250 to secure the Class 8100 title for the second consecutive season.

Tim Casey has been racing for nearly three decades, but it has only been in the last three seasons that he has been behind the wheel of his own vehicle. Prior to that Casey was a hired gun, with his first class victory in the historic Mint 400 in 1984. Casey’s current ride is a 2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty that competes in Class 8100 for full size trucks. The Super Duty is deceptively stock in appearance, but the suspension has been modified with Deaver springs and huge King shocks to deliver all of the power from the Triton V-10 engine to the 37-inch BFGoodrich tires.

“The biggest challenge in Henderson was the cold,” Tim explained. “We aren’t accustomed to snow on the ground at desert races!” Casey and co-driver Bill Rante completed the entire 250-mile race together, only stopping for fuel along the way. “We love this course,” Casey confessed. “It has a little bit of everything from rough terrain to high speed sections where we can really open up the Ford V-10.” La Paz Racing had the Midas touch this season, winning nearly every Best In The Desert (BITD) race in Class 8100 including the Parker 425, Silver State 300, the Blue Water Desert Challenge, and second at the renowned Vegas to Reno event. This brought a runaway victory for the season championship that Casey attributed to his family and long time supporters on the La Paz Racing team. With all of the pieces in place for success, La Paz Racing will return in 2012 with their sights set on a third consecutive BITD Class 8100 championship. Look for them on top of the podium when the season begins on February 5th with the Parker 425.
